Soul Jazz Records started off as a record shop above the legendary Dingwalls in Camden, London in 1988 selling predominantly second hand (surprise surprise) soul, jazz, Latin, and funk records bought during frequent trips to the US. The label (and Universal Sound, it's sister label) came to life in 1991 with the re-release of Eddie Russ' classic 'Fresh Out' LP. As the name suggests, the label started out specialising in jazz and soul, but has branched out in all directions, even releasing new recordings alongside the reissues. Not sticking with one or two styles, their discography ranges from deep house, roots reggae, Latin, hip hop, funk, Brazilian, punk, disco, electro, etc. |
